Penalty Shootout
The same loose bodies as Ragdoll Football, pointed at a goal that is only a few steps away. A penalty shootout is five kicks each, then sudden death.

How the five kicks work
A penalty shootout is five kicks each, alternating. Player 1 shoots first and defends the second kick, and so on until both have taken five. The side with more goals wins.
If the score is level after five, the penalty shootout moves to sudden death: one kick each, repeated, and the first round where one side scores and the other does not ends it. There is no limit on how many sudden-death rounds you can play.
A side can win before all five kicks are taken. If the score cannot be caught with the kicks remaining, the shootout ends there — the same early finish you see in real football.
Where the power band is
The power bar under the penalty shootout sweeps from zero to a hundred and back. Everything between 46 and 92 is the scoring window, and the number turns green when you are inside it.
Under 46 the ball is too slow. The keeper still gets there even after committing to the wrong corner, which is the most frustrating way to lose a kick and the easiest to avoid.
At 93 and above the ball climbs. You will see it leave the frame entirely, and no amount of aiming will bring it back down. The top of the bar looks powerful and is a trap.
What the keeper can see
Against the computer, the keeper never reads your crosshair. It picks a corner on its own, leaning towards the middle more often than the edges, so a firm shot into a bottom corner is the percentage play.
With two players it is the opposite: both of you can see everything. Your target marker is on screen, and so is the keeper's position. That turns every kick into a bluff — park the marker in one corner, wait for the dive to commit, then move it and shoot.
This is why the two-player mode is the one worth learning. A penalty shootout against the computer is a timing game; against a person it becomes a mind game with a timing game attached.
Why the dive overshoots
The keeper is a jointed doll rather than a sliding rectangle — the same ragdoll football bodies you steer on the pitch, wired to dive. When it goes, the arms and legs keep travelling after the body has stopped, and the whole shape wobbles on the way down.
That overshoot is not decoration. It is the reason a shot into a corner the keeper did not choose can still be clawed out by a trailing hand, and the reason a central shot sometimes squeezes under a body that has already committed.
It also means the safe corner changes as the keeper tires across a five-kick penalty shootout. Watch the second dive, not the first.
Frequently asked questions
How many penalties does each side take?
Five, alternating. If the score is level after those five, the shootout goes to sudden death with one kick each until one side misses while the other scores.
What happens if it is level after five kicks?
Sudden death. Both sides take one kick per round, and the round ends the shootout as soon as one scores and the other does not. There is no cap on rounds.
Can one player be the keeper and the other the shooter?
Yes. Switch the penalty shootout to two players and the shooter aims with A, D, W and S plus Space, while the keeper moves with the arrow keys. Both play on the same keyboard.
Why did my shot go over the bar?
Power at 93 or above sends the ball over the frame regardless of aim. The scoring window is 46 to 92, and the power number turns green when you are inside it.
Does the keeper know where I am aiming?
Not in one-player mode: the computer picks its corner independently, with a bias towards the middle. In two-player mode both of you can see everything, so the skill is in the late change of direction.
